Mayweather is a little under two weeks away from fighting Andre Berto but for some reason he’s still talking about his victory over Manny Pacquiao. The past week Mayweather gave a few quotes tearing down the legacy of Manny Pacquiao and devaluing him as a fighter.
“I started off with the Pacquiao fight,”Mayweather said via DirectTV. “I didn’t care what I had to do. He didn’t live up to expectations. I went out there and I was smart. Everyone put so much hype behind Manny Pacquiao. It wasn’t my fault. My job was to go out there and be the master class player I’ve been from day one.”
Mayweather then had this to say during this past weekend’s Showtime ‘Shobox’ telecast:
“You must realize this. The media, the critics, the people built that kid up to put him on my level. Once again, there will never be a fighter on my level because you have to be able to where I go mentally.”
For a fighter that is hoping to be deemed ‘The Best Ever’ after he hangs up his gloves, it seems backwards for him to be diminishing the accomplishments of his opponents. It looks more and more like Mayweather is fanning the flames for a future Pacquiao rematch. Ever comment seems to keep the possibility floating around the boxing world.
