Sicario will keep you on the edge of your seat and you’ll be wondering who to root for as you watch it.
Without giving too much away, Sicario is a film that will be brought up because of current American politics. As an audience member, you navigate through the film and you’ll wonder if Emily Blunt’s character really needs another cigarette or if Daniel Kaluuya’s character is her only friend.
Daniel Kaluuya sat down with BSO to talk about Sicario and even let us in on a few things that we didn’t know about. Take a look below.
1)The opening scene-was it mentally tough to record? How did you prepare?
We did a lot of training for about 2 days. I wanted to get the action right. I went to gun ranges out there to prepare for the scene. All the explosions in that scene took about two weeks to film. It was a lot of stuff blowing up. They had to blow up the house and then rebuild it. It was a lot of fun.
2) The scene when you got to use a pair of night vision goggles left me wondering something. Did you actually get to use a pair of them?
I wish we would’ve been able to use a pair of them. They couldn’t have any light. It was pitch black throughout that whole mile radius. They only had to look like night vision goggles. So what happened was, it was pitch black and we were jumping around with one eye. We couldn’t see anyway but that was a very tough sequence to shoot. It took us a few days to film.
3) To stay with that scene, what was going through your mind as you were going through the tunnel?
When you hear the gun shots, well, I think the whole film, it comes across as the reality of what these people are going through. To fight in the dark, especially when you see it from the other characters, it’s the reality of how loud these gunshots are. People actually go through this and what the other side goes through to get through the border… Having to fight in the dark, it’s crazy. It was hard to maneuver.
4) What was your favorite scene in the movie?
It has got to be the last sequence with Benicio and Emily. Yo, that scene was crazy! It has us on such edge. Benicio went crazy in the cinema theater. They were on such an edge throughout the whole scene. Also the border scene, when they’re coming back from Juarez.
5) Did you guys actually get to go into Juarez?
My character actually didn’t because my character was in the states. But they went into Juarez during the last week to shoot that. They went out there and everybody told me about it. They said it was crazy and it’s very dangerous especially with Hollywood stars and film crew.
6) Are there any upcoming projects that you would like to tell the audience about?
Well right now I’m on break. I’ve got some stuff lined up that I can’t really share about just yet but audiences will love it.
Don’t miss out on this thriller of a film. Sicario is out in theaters nationwide on October 2, 2015.
