After sitting out the season opener, Ole Miss left tackle Laremy Tunsil will miss the second game of the season as well as the NCAA investigation on his association with agents continues.
Ole Miss is heavy favorites against Fresno State today in Oxford.
Here are the details from CBS Sports:
Laremy Tunsil’s 2015 debut will be delayed by at least another week. Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze told ESPN that the star left tackle will not play on Saturday against Fresno State because of an ongoing NCAA investigation.
Freeze has given no updates regarding the status of the NCAA’s inquiry in possible contact between Tunsil and agents. The decision to sit Tunsil last week in the opener against UT-Martin was deemed a “precautionary measure” by the school.
Ole Miss is favored by more than four touchdowns on Saturday against the Bulldogs at home, so Tunsil’s availability for week two likely won’t impact the outcome of the game. However, the extension of this investigation is concerning with the Rebels traveling to Tuscaloosa next week to take on Alabama and the Tide’s nasty defensive front. Since Tunsil is not playing on Saturday, his status will be one of the story’s to watch heading into week three.
Again, this is a game that having Tunsil out won’t hurt the Rebels. If this sitting out business continues into the conference schedule, then I would begin to worry if I was an Ole Miss fan.
