After suffering a torn meniscus earlier in the year, Arizona’s star linebacker Scooby Wright is expected to return to action this weekend against UCLA.
Getting Wright back will be a huge boost for the Wildcat defense as they go to battle against one of their stiffest challenges in the Pac 12 South.
Here are the details from Fox Sports:
Arizona All-America linebacker Scooby Wright is expected to play Saturday as the No. 16 Wildcats host No. 9 UCLA, a source told FOX Sports Friday afternoon.
The 6-foot-1, 250-pound junior suffered a torn meniscus in Arizona’s opener against Texas-San Antonio. Wright had his knee scoped three weeks ago.
In 2014, Wright led UA to the Pac-12 South title and won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Rotary Lombardi Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award, all given annually to the nation’s top defender. The Pat Tillman Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year ranked in the top five among FBS players for total tackles (163), tackles for loss (29.0), sacks (14.0) and forced fumbles (6).
This is big news for Arizona after their star player suffered a scare. More times than none when a player suffers a knee injury they are shut down for the year, so they dodged a big bullet.
It will be interesting to see how Wright moves around early on and see if he has any lingering effects of the injury.
