Ever wonder how many titles Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant would of won if they never split their separate ways?
Many do including one half of the Lakers duo that won three NBA championships, Doctor O’Neal.
Shaq was on the Rich Eisen Show with Suzy Shuster and spoke on the dreamy ‘what if’ situation Bryant and him stayed together in Los Angeles, even perhaps pass Michael Jordan’s six titles.
Check the video below for the Diesel’s thoughts on how many rings they could of won.
If you want the controversial quotes from the show, Eye on Basketball provides the transcript of the dialogue with Suzy Shuster.
“I think we could’ve either tied Michael or surpassed Mike,” O’Neal said on the Rich Eisen Show. “Mike has six. You know, everybody talks about Bill Russell’s 11. No player will ever come along and get 11 championships unless they reduce the league to 10 teams. So now Mike, when it comes to the pinnacle of championships, you always got to go with Mike. Mike has six. I think we could’ve either tied that or got that. But if “if” was a fifth, we’d all be drunk, Susan.”
Let’s not forget about a month ago, Scottie Pippen took offense to O’Neal’s claim that the Lakers all-time franchise players team was better than the Chicago Bulls on Instagram. Jokes were traded, but the true answer to that question is debatable.
However, when it come to NBA championships Jordan and Pippen’s 6-0 record with two separate three-peats have to be respected and are the standard to winning. No disrespect to Bill Russell’s 11 rings, but the Bulls run in the 90s was remarkable.
Jordan and Pippen never lost, closed out championship game clinchers on the road four times, never played in a Game 7, and crushed many hearts along the way ask Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, John Stockton, and Patrick Ewing just to name a few.
O’Neal and Bryant have one blemish together losing to a cohesive and defensive revived Detroit Pistons losing 4-1 in the 2004 NBA Finals. The duo were a formidable team destined for more than three championships, but they were each other’s worst enemies.
What do you guys think of O’Neal’s claims of passing Jordan’s six titles?
Would Bryant and O’Neal tie the six?
