Just in case you have an interview scheduled with Chris Webber soon, you may want to take note and not ask him about his former “Fab Five” teammate Jalen Rose. On the Doug Gottlieb show, Doug asked Chris Webber how his relationship was with Jalen and Webber stopped him in his tracks.
“What did you just ask me?” Webber said
This was followed by Gottlieb asking him the question again and continuing to not get the hint. Rose and Webber were great friends once upon a time but the two have had a falling out. Of course, this is the stuff that makes news so of course Gottlieb is going to push the question. Check out the audio of the exchange.
“I mean, Doug, we ain’t talking about that,” Webber said. “You ain’t getting that interview. I’m talking about Wake Forest. I don’t talk about him. I talked about him one time on The Dan Patrick show. That was it.”
Gottlieb tried to explain why he asked the question to begin with, but Webber cut him off.
“Come on, Doug,” Webber said, annoyed. “I just told you respectfully on your show I’m not going to talk about it. I’m talking about being a professor at Wake Forest teaching a class on culture in sports. Now do want want to beat me up because I did not answer you on your show?”
Not at all, Gottlieb said.
“I don’t want to answer the question,” Webber reiterated. “So what would you ask me after that? Because I’m going to put this in for my class as far as how did you handle the media. I’m going to show them right now: I do not want to answer that question. I respectfully ask you not to ask me that again so you can blow your numbers up for your show. I don’t want to talk about that, Doug.”
It did not end there as Gottlieb continued trying to explain that he was just doing his job by asking the question and Webber, flat out annoyed at this point, not caring to discuss it further. When you’re in the business of trying to get a headline you will ask the questions that get people out of their comfort zone. Once Webber made it obvious that he did not want to deal with any questions about that, Gottlieb should have just laid off. The beef is real and we need to let it go. Hopefully the two will eventually work it out but for now, just keep Jalen Rose’s name out of any conversation with Webber.
