Can someone please tell these boxers that Mayweather is retired?!
Canelo Alvarez is the latest boxer to request a fight with Floyd and as strange as it seems, he’s the only one with a viable chance at receiving one. If Canelo was to beat Cotto next weekend, and cut down to 150 lbs, I can see him fighting Mayweather at the new MGM Grand Arena on Cinco De Mayo.
When asked about the fight Canelo had this to say:
“I’m not going to worry about that, if I get it or I don’t get it. I only worry about winning and giving the best fights to the people and the rest is a bonus. The rest will happen if it’s left alone. If it happens then it’s good, and if not I’ll move forward with my career,” Canelo said.
“I think things are better left alone. If a rematch is presented then it’s good for me. If it doesn’t happen, I will continue with my career as I always have. I’m not going to worry about whether it will happen or not happen, I’ll worry about my career.”
Canelo is arguably the biggest draw in boxing and the prospect of one more mega-pay day could entice Mayweather out of retirement.
