Chicago Cop Who Shot Laquan McDonald 16 Times Charged With Murder

van-dyke

Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke will face first-degree murder charges for shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times, killing the young man in the process reports the Chicago Sun Times.

Van Dyke turned himself in on Tuesday morning, where he was fingerprinted and processed.

The indictment comes amid news that a Cook County judge will release the dash cam video of the incident, which shows the embattled officer responding to a call of a man wielding a knife.

McDonald was subsequently shot 16 times — with cops saying he was swinging the knife — and autopsy proof that shows he had PCP in his system.

Mayor Rahm Emmanuel asked city residents to protest peacefully.

“People have a right and should exercise their First Amendment rights. Do it in a focused way, a responsible way so your voices and ideas are heard.”

On Saturday, the Rev. Jesse Jackson called for a “police shakeup from top to bottom.”
