Demaryius Thomas will have extra motivation, because of some extra guest in the house when the Chiefs come to Denver on Sunday.
Thomas is in his sixth NFL season, but his mother, Katina Stuckey Smith, has never been able to attend one of his games because of a lengthy prison stint. The Federal Bureau of Prisons listed her as having been released on Tuesday.
In 2000, Smith was convicted in the Middle District of Georgia on one count of conspiracy to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute. Smith was one of 46 nonviolent drug offenders whose sentences were commuted by President Barack Obama in mid-July. Her release date was to be June 25, 2017. Prison records showed that she was recently housed at the Tallahassee Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Denver Post reported that she was in a halfway house the last three months.
According to the Post, Smith will be on supervised release and have to report to U.S. probation, which could be by phone or in person. Travel restrictions will be at the discretion of the court and her probation officer.
