Geno Smith is finally crying foul on IK Enemkpali — now saying that he didn’t owe the Buffalo Bills, and former Jets linebacker money.
After telling reporters that he wasn’t surprised Enemkpali was named a team captain for Thursday nights matchup, Smith said he “didn’t even owe” IK any money according to Newsday.
“I didn’t owe him,” he told Newsday, refuting reports that their argument stemmed from his refusal to pay Enemkpali $600 he owed. “No. That’s the biggest misconception in America.”
It was reported that Enemkpali was upset because he had paid for a plane ticket for Smith to attend his July 11 football camp in his hometown of Pflugerville, Texas.
Smith canceled because a friend was in a motorcycle accident, and Enemkpali got agitated because he felt Geno was playing games on reimbursing his expenses.
It came to a head on Aug. 11 when Enemkpali reportedly “demanded” that Smith give him his refund — before punching the Jets quarterback — breaking his jaw.
Asked why he never revealed this information before, he said: “Because I don’t make statements. I don’t owe anybody anything.”
