Jon Jones managed to stay away from the public eye during his hit & run case, UFC suspension and post-suspension training. He finally opened up about his troubles outside of the Octagon in this MMAFighting.com interview.
If you watch the entire interview Jon seems sincere and remorseful, but he wouldn’t be the first athlete we’ve seen portray a drastic 180 turn. In the video he details his partying and drinking before fights, during training and in his downtime.
He blames his partying for a lot of his struggles in the octagon and for some of his bad decisions outside of it. In hindsight, it’s a great excuse for his actions but the public isn’t looking for excuses. He claims to have learned and changed but many of his recent actions on social media say that he’s the same ole James Jones.
Only time will tell if he’s truly changed. If partying was such a huge detriment to his career then he’ll be an even better competitor when he returns to the UFC.
