Kareem Implies Jordan Cares More About Money Than Social Issues

Michael Jordan has never faked liked he cared about any of America’s social issues, yet critics and athletes alike have always found his lack of activism alarming.

Abdul-Jabbar gave an interview to NPR this week to promote a new HBO documentary called Kareem: Minority of One — and in it he slammed the sneaker king for caring more about shoe sales, than the issues plaguing our society.

“You can’t be afraid of losing shoe sales if you’re worried about your civil and human rights. He took commerce over conscience. It’s unfortunate for him, but he’s gotta live with it.”

Abdul-Jabbar’s comments came after Jordan’s famous “Republicans buy sneakers, too,” quote was mentioned.

Unlike Kareem, Michael Jordan kept his political beliefs to himself — focusing on the swoosh and Gatorade as he became the marketing king.

That was also Jordan’s right, as a citizen of this capitalist country we call America. And before we get all caught up in Kareem ripping Jordan, lets all remember that the NBA only has on African-American owner.

That owner is Jordan — and are we to believe that he would have accumulated the necessary wealth to purchase a franchise, without focusing on the brand?
