At first glance it may seem that Dana White is just being a Rousey cheerleader, but his recent statements regarding Rousey’s increased popularity post-head kick KO have merit.
“It’s crazy, because you win and lose in the fight game,” White said. “It happens. It’s funny because we were comparing her to Tyson, who had this invincibility. She was a Tyson. It was never more true than when she lost. Because when she lost, everybody was shocked. A hundred million people were talking about it on social media. And I actually think that Ronda Rousey is bigger now after the loss than she was before the fight. And there’s gonna be a rematch.”
Ronda Rousey was rolling through everyone and eventually that wears thin on an audience. In combat sports many of the greatest fighters had legit adversaries that pushed them to new heights. Holly Holm may be that for Ronda, depending how the rematch play out.
If Ronda was to recapture the women’s bantamweight title in grand fashion, the TKO will only be a small part of a much larger Rousey legacy.
