Report: 76ers Discussing Naming Mike D’Antoni Associate Head Coach

Mike-D'Antoni

I’m not sure what this is supposed to do for the 76ers, besides space the floor a little better.

Five days after adding Jerry Colangelo as Chairman of Basketball Operations, Sixers brass are reportedly in discussions to bring Mike D’Antoni into the organization as associate head coach according to Yahoo Sports.

D’Antoni, a four-time head coach in the NBA, has been discussing with Colangelo and Brown a role on the Sixers’ bench that could begin later this month, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

D’Antoni, 64, and Colangelo have a longstanding relationship that includes successful runs together with the Phoenix Suns and USA Basketball. D’Antoni has been the revolutionary offensive mind of the modern NBA era, clearing the path for faster, smaller offenses that thrive on the 3-point shot.

With Brett Brown getting a two-year extension, D’Antoni’s unlikely to be coming in as the coach in waiting.
