Per Fox Sports, South Carolina brass are expected to interview Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez for their head coaching vacancy.
South Carolina has had to shift course a couple of times during their coaching search due to some of their primary targets going elsewhere or staying put.
Here are the details from Fox Sports:
Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez is set to meet with South Carolina about the Gamecocks‘ coaching vacancy, a source told FOX Sports college football insider Bruce Feldman on Thursday morning.
The 52-year-old Rodriguez, a former Clemson OC, won the Pac-12 South in 2014, going 10-4. It was only the second 10-win season Arizona’s had in program history. He is 32-20 at ‘Zona and has beaten four Top 10 teams the past four seasons.
Others expected to get interviewed for the Gamecocks job: Auburn DC Will Muschamp, Oklahoma OC Lincoln Riley, former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano and Cal coach Sonny Dykes. Interim coach Shawn Elliott already has interviewed.
Feldman reports that he’s hearing South Carolina would like to have its new coach by Sunday.
It has been reported previously that South Carolina had targeted Houston head coach Tom Herman and Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.
I’m not sure which direction South Carolina will opt to go at this point, but I will be surprised if Auburn’s Will Muschamp was indeed the pick after his stint at Florida and his unit’s less than stellar performance this year at Auburn.
