Soccer Player Banned For Match Fixing Shot Dead in El Salvador

Pacheco

Alfredo Pacheco was shot dead in his native country, El Salvador early Sunday while at a gas station. The defender, who made 14 appearances for the New York Red Bulls in 2009, was banned by his national soccer federation for life after being involved in a match fixing scandal in 2013.

Pacheco, to this day, is the most capped soccer player for El Salvador. Two other people, who were speaking with him at the time of the shooting, was wounded as well. El Salvador is plagued with gang violence, 6500 murders have been registered this year alone.

Earlier this month, Arnold Peralta was also shot in Honduras while on vacation, a country dominated by gang violence as well.
