ABC News reports that The United States Congress will begin an extensive study into concussions in 2016, not only for sports and military reasons, but also as a more broad plan to help understand concussions and their effects as a whole for the general public.
A subcommittee will bring together professionals from the medical, sports, and military field to lead a fight against the prevention of concussions. A study by The Department of Veteran Affairs and Boston University found that 87 out of 91 of football players tested positive for the degenerative brain disease known as CTE.
“We often hear about concussions in the context of service members and athletes, but this problem goes well beyond the battlefield and the gridiron. It’s a matter of public health as these injuries are prevalent in all ages and across the population.” Chairman of the House of Energy and Commerce Committee said on Tuesday.
With how serious things have gotten in with CTE and brain trauma in the NFL, it’s good for the future of the game that help has arrived.
