Upsets. Upsets. Upsets.
It’s been all about the upsets this season in college basketball and last week was no different.
Three teams in the top 10 fell last week and two of them lost twice.
Oh yeah, we also have a new team at number one.
1. Kansas Jayhawks – There’s no doubt Bill Self’s team deserves the top spot following their classic triple overtime win over Oklahoma.
After their lone loss to Michigan State way back in November, the Jayhawks have rattled off 13 straight.
2. Oklahoma Sooners – Last week, the Sooners held the top spot, but after losing in heartbreaking fashion to Kansas, they’re currently here at two.
Typically, after a loss, a team will drop more than one spot, however, there’s no shame losing in triple overtime inside Allen Fieldhouse.
3. Maryland Terrapins – For a second, it appeared as if Maryland would falter down the rankings, until Melo Trimble decided to be Melo Trimble.
The Terps just continue to get better and better with each game.
4. North Carolina Tar Heels – We learned a lot about the Heels last week.
Roy’s boys had two tough road contest, at Florida State and at Syracuse. Both games were close for a while, but North Carolina made championship type plays down the stretch.
With center Kennedy Meeks back in the lineup, it takes tons of pressure off Brice Johnson.
5. Michigan State Spartans – Denzel Valentine is back.
In his return to action, Valentine posted a cool 10 points, 4 rebounds and 4 dimes.
Without Valentine, Michigan State only lost one game, which was to Iowa, but as the schedule looks to pick up here soon, it’s a welcomed sign for Tom Izzo to have his main guy back.
