The WWE’s move to ‘PG’ has seen them be very specific about what is said and seen on television, which is why the reports of them purchasing the “Bullet Club” name is so interesting.
ProWrestlingTees says that WWE has purchased the Bullet Club naming rights and their status as one of the leaders in wrestling merchandise lends them credibility.
Then new leader of the Bullet Club, Kenny Omega, tweeted that the group has undergone a name change.
All signs point toward the WWE now owning the rights to the Bullet Club, but this doesn’t mean that they’ll use that name.
For months the WWE and ex-Bullet Club leader Finn Balor (Prince Devitt) has teased forming a Balor Club. The faction could debut with that namesake and fit perfectly into the ‘PG’ themed WWE, much like The Wyatt Family being named after it’s leader Bray.
It’d be a simple open and shut topic if it wasn’t for the WWE posting Balor wearing the Bullet Club t-shirt on their official Instagram. Acknowledging the name and wearing the merchandise makes the situation complicated. The image itself, a skull with two machine guns underneath and the words Bullet Club above is very risque for the overly sensitive WWE. This is the same organization that won’t use words like choke or show Men vs Women angles. It’s also the same organization that has completely erased Chris Benoit from it’s history.
This name change can mark the age of a new era. An era of less gimmicks and more realism, an era focus or wrestling prowess over muscular build, an era dominated by former indie wrestling stars.
This is the era that CM Punk imagined years ago. The change brought about by one fateful pipe bomb and the dedication of a growing population of smarks.
