There was talk of a Kobe statue being erected during the season, but now we know who will be made immortal outside the legendary Staples Center this year:
SHAQ!
I’ve already professed my love for Kobe, but Shaq was that dude. The raw power, the personality, the quotes, the broken backboards all made for one of the biggest icons of our time. He’s done so much since retiring that it could be easy to forget what a force he was playing basketball.
As for the statue, I love it. It’s different than any statue I’ve seen (other than Shaq’s other statue) and it epitomizes the big fella how I remember him: legs spread wide while the basket holds on for dear life.
