Kendrick Lamar is one of the most influential rap artists in the current generation. His devotion to his city is his trademark, along with giving insightful perspectives on issues that affect African Americans all over the country. Since his national emergence in 2011, he has used his success to give back to his community whenever he has the time. It looks like people are taking notice with all the accolades that he has been receiving lately.
In a Twitter post earlier today, Compton Mayor Aja Brown notified rapper Kendrick Lamar that he would be receiving the key to the City of Compton. In her post, she explained that because Lamar is such an inspirational figure among many residents in Compton, as well as his extensive charitable and philanthropic activities he has engaged in since emerging on the national scene in 2011. A few hours after the initial tweet, Lamar’s response included a subtle phrase “HUBLUV”, a reference to the city’s nickname “Hub City”. This comes after an immensely successful 2015 for Kendrick Lamar, which saw his most complex and expressive album received unanimous praise.
@AjaLBrown I appreciate that. HUBLUV.
