The UFC has decided to give Conor McGregor’s “red panty night” a new name. What was originally considered UFC 197 will now be called UFC 196.
McGregor will be in pursuit of Raphael Dos Anjos’ lightweight title and the co-main event will feature Holly Holm’s first title defense against Meisha Tate.
“UFC 196: Werdum vs Velasquez” has been downgraded to a Fight Night event on Fox Sports 1 due to injuries to both main event participants. The Fight Night card will now be headlined by former welterweight champion Johnny Hendricks and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
This also means that the UFC will look to add another PPV in May, a date they planned to skip, so that the landmark UFC 200 event still lands in July.
