When Kennedy Meeks went down with a bruised left knee, at the time, it appeared to be a loss Roy’s boys wouldn’t be able to replace.
However, senior Brice Johnson has stepped up in a major way.
Johnson is fresh off a career-high 39 point and 23 rebound performance against the Florida State Seminoles. During Meeks absence, Johnson has averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds.
With Meeks set to return tomorrow against Saturday, the question is will he slow down Johnson’s effectiveness?
Head coach Roy Williams doesn’t think so.
“I don’t buy into that. Brice has just played harder, run the floor more effectively,” Williams said. “You could probably count in the last 10 games him running the floor and getting the ball on the break [more] than his first three years put together. I don’t think it’ll have much of an effect really.”
Now, I don’t believe Johnson’s will continue putting up those crazy numbers with Meeks back into the lineup. Nonetheless, this is not to say Johnson won’t still be a major key for the Heels success moving forward.
Meeks averaged 12.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game before his injury.
