Matt Forte is in a spot we’ve seen so many other aging running backs- finally out of their contract with their underachieving team, now wanting to chase that ring. Forte is no different, from NFL.com:
“It’s not even about the money,” Forte emphasized. “I want to be in the Super Bowls.”
The team that seems to make the most sense, as it usually does, is the Patriots. Forte is versatile and could give Tom Brady a much-needed weapon coming out of the backfield. He wouldn’t have to do it by himself either, Dion Lewis showed flashes of his potential and should be ready for training camp after an injury derailed his season.
The Packers also have to be an interesting option as Forte knows that team as well as they know him. He’s seen the success they’ve had with Aaron Rodgers while he sat at home with Jay Cutler. Division rivals are always big in free agency and this could be the most interesting RB pairing Aaron Rodgers has had since entering the league.
And of course, the Cowboys. Darren McFadden surprised people with his consistency last season, but there was still bone left on the meat when he wasn’t playing. Forte could be a cheaper option for Dallas than pursuing someone like DeMarco Murray.
