Rob Gronkowski may have had his wildest off-season to date and it’s not even March, but somehow the controversy has been minimal. He’s given lap dances on television, hosted an epic booze cruise to his personal island, and who knows what else we haven’t heard about.
His NFL comrade Victor Cruz had comments on the stereotyping that happens with the New England tight end and some other players in the NFL. From CBS Sports:
“I mean Gronk is kind of labeled as that guy that likes to have fun and party and things like that. And you know that because he’s open about it and doesn’t hide it but if it was someone like Odell or Cam to do it, it would just be talked about a little bit more than when Gronk does it because you expect that from Gronk and you don’t expect that from Odell [Beckham] or Cam [Newton]. So there’s just a double standard there due to their personalities and how they are. But I think either one is cool.”
I agree with both points Cruz had- the fact that Gronk never holds anything back or pulls punches when it comes to his lifestyle helps him get away with it. That and the fact that he is a once in a generation type player.
Either way is cool, I just wish both black and white players were treated equally. If you can party like he can, but still show up and take care of your business the way he does, then by all means. The problem is most people don’t have that discipline, but it shouldn’t ruin it for the rest of us.
