Immediately after the selection show a week ago, many were questioning the Syracuse Orange. Their resume doesn’t ‘wow’ you and many figured little guys such as Monmouth and etc should’ve received the nod over Jim Boeheim’s ball club.
However, the Orange have silenced the critics after reaching the sweet 16 for the first time since 2013, when the Orange reached the final four.
Speaking of the final four, when you examine what’s ahead for Syracuse, it’s very realistic for them to make it to Houston this year. Their next game will against 11 seeded Gonzaga, who has greatly overachieved thus far.
If Syracuse were able march pass the Zags, then they’ll face the winner of Virginia and Iowa State. Assuming the Cavaliers win, Syracuse will at least have the familiarity factor considering the ACC schools faced off against each other back in January, where the Orange only lost by eight.
Now, in no way shape or form am I predicting this to happen for Syracuse, but at the same time, who predicted them to even make it this far?
While a potential matchup with Virginia will bring comfortability, the Cavaliers can beat you in so many different ways and let’s say Iowa State is the opponent, the Cyclones just have way too much offensive firepower for the Orange.
