Maria Sharapova admitted that she took Meldonium after she tested positive for the drug. She been taking it since 2006 for health reasons. It was never on the list for banned substances until 2016 and she slipped up and got caught.
Even though she admitted to cheating she seems to be getting a relative. Since when has an athlete that’s tested positive for a drug been treated fairly well like Sharapova? The head of the Women’s Tennis Association even said she made an “honest mistake”.
Well, there’s one place that’s not taking this “honest mistake” and that’s the United Nations. CNN reported the United Nations has suspended Sharapova while the investigation is going on. She will probably still be suspended once the WTA gives their punishment to her.
She only makes $1 salary being an ambassador so it’s not going to her hurt financially but that’s a position that’s bigger than money. She helped tremendously in the efforts to eradicate inequality and poverty stemming from the 1986 Chernobyl accident. She clearly did work as an ambassador but now she has to find other ways to help, which she still can.
