Dirk Nowitzki has been the foundation of Dallas ever since slipping on a Mavericks uniform. On the cusp of getting his team into the playoffs once again Dirk will still have a decision to make this summer. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon spoke with Dirk about his future with the Mavericks.
Dirk says he plans to pick up the player option in his contract for next season. "I always said I wanted to play those 3 years to the end."

Dirk: "In my mind, after we won the championship, it was always clear I will retire a Mav." But he wants no part of a rebuilding project.

This is not surprising as Dirk has remained loyal to the Mavericks his entire career. I’m sure Dirk will still sit back, and see how things play out because not much time is left if he wants to compete for another NBA title. Give credit to Mark Cuban who always tries to add talent around the future Hall of Famer. This summer will be another big one for the Mavericks to see if they can land another superstar to go along with Dirk, but as we saw last year anything can happen.
