Oscar De La Hoya Thanks Donald Trump For Canelo vs Khan (Video)

So how did a fight between the newly minted middleweight champion and a welterweight challenger who’s never competed at middleweight REALLY get made? Golden Boy Chief Oscar De La Hoya says Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump helped with that, but don’t look for Oscar to cast any votes for the Donald.

Wednesday, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Amir “King” Khan concluded a three-city press tour with a triumphant return to California, home base for both of their training operations. With excited fans cheering them on at Universal City Walk in Los Angeles, Alvarez, Khan, and Golden Boy Chief Oscar De La Hoya, took center stage to promote the upcoming May 7th showdown at the newly constructed T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

For Alvarez the match-up is not only an opportunity to assert his position as boxing’s biggest star but to also reclaim Cinco De Mayo weekend for Mexicans in the post-Mayweather era. Across the ring Khan sees the bout not only as a career payday but his shot at making a serious argument for a pay-per-view event against Manny Pacquiao or the bait to lure Floyd Mayweather out of retirement.

Before heading out to greet the “loud and proud” predominately pro-Canelo crowd on hand the fighters went behind the scenes with the media to answer questions about the making of the fight, whether or not size matters and what is the real key to victory. Unwilling to divulge too much in the way of strategy, Alvarez believes the smarter fighter will win while Khan balked at the notion of being too small but agrees his speed will give him the advantage.
