A fan and part-time MMA fighter Vyron Phillips got the opportunity to fight Roy Jones. If Phillips won he would win $100k.
It was an interesting event.
It had some old MMA fighters on it, some old wrestlers (Kurt Angle & Rey Mysterio), the rapper Riff Raff and not to mention Jim Ross doing the play-by-play.
It was a $12 PPV and I’d be curious to find out how many buys it actually got.
Whatever the case, no matter how washed up Roy Jones is, he could be 80 and still knockout a guy off the street and that is what he did.
I have no problem with Roy doing these gimmick fights, but please don’t get in the ring with an actual boxer because I don’t know how many times I can see Roy get knocked out cold in the ring again.
After the bout he compared himself to Michael Jordan.
“I wouldn’t challenge Michael Jordan in 1-1 for $100K. That guy has an amazing heart to just try the feat. He went out and challenged the best. That’s a lot of heart.”
There was a time that Roy was the Michael Jordan of boxing, but BSO didn’t even exist when he was and I have done this for over a decade.
