The Oklahoma Sooners are in the final four for the first time since 2002 and the trending topic is none other than Buddy Hield.
When it comes to scoring, no one in the country does it better than Hield. In today’s elite 8 matchup against Oregon, Mr. Hield poured in 37 points on 13-of-20 shooting.
As Hield and company prepare for Houston, media and fans alike are wondering where Hield should be drafted this summer.
Obviously, Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram are likely to go 1-2 in the draft this summer. After that, it’s pretty wide open.
Prospects like Kris Dunn, Jamal Murray and Dragan Bender (Croatian) are names who may be drafted ahead of Hield.
First of all, Dunn is clearly the best point guard of this class and with him standing at 6-foot-4, teams are looking for big floor generals like Dunn.
Jamal Murray may be not be as good a shooter as Hield, but he’s not far off by any means and what teams will like about Murray more is that he’s a true combo guard. He can play the one or the two.
When it comes to Bender, general managers may be willing to take the gamble based on how well Kristaps Porzingis translated so early. Typically, teams would be gun-shy to select european players this early but Phil Jackson was rewarded for his risk.
On the flip side, if you’re drafting based on ‘NBA ready’ guys, Buddy Hield should go top five easily. He’s spent all four seasons at Oklahoma, he has a NBA body and he can shoot it with the best of ’em.
Depending on who’s selecting three through five, a GM that’s conservative and wants to take the ‘safe pick’, then Hield is your guy.
