Adrien Broner’s training for Friday night’s fight against Ashley Theophane has been anything but normal – with the junior welterweight titlist welcoming a new baby girl at the beginning of March and facing felony assault and robbery charges at the end. But Broner seemed like his normal brash, trash talking self at Wednesday’s final press conference leading up to Friday’s bout where he admitted that he didn’t want to be there, talked trash to Theophane and even gave Floyd Mayweather a new name – “Hateweather.”
Broner may appear unbothered, but an outstanding warrant and prospect of going to jail is enough to distract even the most focused fighter – which Broner is not. The question is, will the events leading up to the fight be enough to cause him to add a third mark in the “L” column? He talks a good talk, but if he doesn’t back up, that’s all he’ll be know for – all bark and no bite.
The April 1 event will be televised beginning at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on Spike TV.
