On Thursday, the promotional relationship between former WBO super featherweight champion Mikey Garcia and Bob Arum came to a close. After a two year court battle, Garcia is back on the market as a free agent.
In an exclusive interview with boxing podcast The Morning Punch-In Show with RB & Jae, Top Rank Chief Bob Arum confirmed that Garcia had been released from the promotional company and was free to pursue other opportunities.
“Other promoters made runs at him. And that screwed him up. and yeah he we didn’t offer him the Crawford fight because he wanted more money than Crawford and Crawford is the champion. That means something. So we’ve given Mikey his release now and he’s free to do what he wants.”
Garcia made his last appearance in the ring in January 2014 against Juan Carlos Burgos. Going the distance, Garcia emerged the victor by unanimous decision.
