The NFL draft is one day away and for the first time in what feels like a decade we aren’t quite sure who will be the #1 overall pick.
The Rams are likely eyeing Jared Goff at #1 but they could still shock the world & draft Carson Wentz at that spot. The third selection is wide open and there’s literally 5-6 players that could be selected after the two QBs; not to mention the possibility of a trade.
Before we get too carried away lets jump into the mock draft.
1. Los Angeles Rams (from Tennessee) – Jared Goff QB Cal
Goff isn’t in the same class of some previous #1 QBs, Luck, Newton & the Mannings, but he’s the best this year’s draft has to offer so the Rams have moved up to get him. He is a California kid which helps as the team moves to Los Angeles.
2. Philadelphia Eagles (from Cleveland) – Carson Wentz QB NDST
The Eagles didn’t want to be left out on the QB sweepstakes so they moved up to select Carson Wentz. Wentz has the physical measurables and athleticism to develop into a good NFL QB but it’s going to take time. His “happy feet” in the pocket are a red flag but the same could’ve been said about Aaron Rodgers coming out of Cal. Will the Eagles give him time to mature is the question.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from San Diego) – Jalen Ramsey DB FSU
Reports are running rampant, per usual, and the Cowboys are supposedly high on Jalen Ramsey. Is it posturing or are the ‘Boys serious? The Tampa Bay Bucs fall for the rumors and move up to select the best DB in the draft. They now have two Noles to lead their team for the foreseeable future.
4. Dallas Cowboys – Joey Bosa DE OSU
The Cowboys seriously discuss taking Elliot at this spot but it’s just too high to select a RB, especially when they have almost no depth on the defensive line. Need dictates they take Joey Bosa and if he is half as good as JJ Watt Dallas will be happy.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars – DeForest Buckner DE Oregon
The Jags spent a lot of money in free agency on their defense and they continue to build a strong defensive line. Buckner is diverse and unlike his time at Oregon he won’t be double teamed due to the talent around him.
6. Baltimore Ravens – Laremy Tunsil OT Ole Miss
The Ravens run to the podium to turn in their card. Tunsil was arguably the best player in the draft. Month ago before draft fatigue set in and analyst started to nitpick. Joe Flacco is coming off an injury and protecting him is top priority.
7. Oakland Raiders (From San Fran) – Myles Jack LB UCLA
Myles Jack is a freak athlete at the linebacker spot and shows the ability to make plays all over the field, does that sound familiar to Raiders fans? They selected Khalil Mack a few years ago because he had these same qualities and now they trade up to select his equal on the inside.
8. Cleveland Browns (from Miami via Philadelphia) – Jack Conklin OT MSU
The Browns are on the phone desperately trying to trade this pick but their asking prices turns out to be too steep and they are forced to select a player. Conklin can step right in at right tackle, learn from one on the best LTs in the game and protect the ever fragile RG3 for a season. Cleveland will then move him to left tackle after next season to protect the blindside of whomever they select as their QB of the future.
