About 24 hours ago, reports surfaced of the Phoenix Suns making Villanova head coach Jay Wright their ‘top choice’.
After winning the National Championship, it came as no surprise to see Wright get some NBA interest. Today, Wright addressed the speculation.
“I can say right now that in my mind I plan to stay at Villanova,” he told ESPN’s Dana O’Neil in an exclusive interview published on Friday afternoon. “But I also don’t want to be a liar. I want to stay. I know I want to stay, but I just say I hope I can stay because I’ve learned from the past how crazy things can be. I hope I can stay at Villanova because this is where I want to be.”
Wright continued:
“When I went through it (in 2009 with the 76ers), the offers were new and it was shocking. Now I kind of know what they’re going to be, and I’m really comfortable. I want to stay. I really want to stay.”
It sounds like a man that truly loves Villanova, but if the right offer were to surface, he’s not making any promises that he’ll stay.
