The people of Kansas have waited a long time for a team to bring a professional championship home. After a 30-year drought, the Royals won it for the good guys.
The big moment of the night was the raising of the championship banner, something that was only a dream for most Royal fans. It was just as special as everyone had hoped, minus one small detail according to Royals manager Ned Yost. Quote via NJ.com:
“It was just strange, the pregame ceremony. I think I would have enjoyed it more if we played another team. For them to relive that, it’s a little awkward.”
It should be noted that the Royals showed a short video and celebrated the success of the Mets season so that might have helped take the sting off- a little bit. For what it’s worth, the schedule was made before the World Series even happened, so it just seemed like an awkward coincidence all around.
But life is how you take it and wouldn’t this be a great start to a sports movie for the Mets? It’s the ultimate low before you redeem totally redeem yourself.
