Pacquiao More Politician Than Boxer at Press Conference (Video)

Did you forget that Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley’s trilogy ending match up was on HBO this weekend? Don’t feel bad, many of our readers did and there are many reasons behind the lack of buzz surrounding the fight.

The issue that jumps out immediately is Manny and Tim’s focus on running a “clean campaign” or in this instance a cordial promo tour.

This is a reflection of Pacquiao’s real-life move from boxer to politician.

During his speech at today’s press conference Pacquiao spoke more of his efforts to better the Philippines than his upcoming fight against Timothy Bradley.

“I help people who need it with my boxing purses,” said Pacquiao. “The money you paid to support boxing helped many families in the Philippines.”

In fact, neither man spent more than a few sentences speaking about the actual fight.

They both ended their speeches urging the public to attend the fight or buy it on PPV but gave little reason for fans to do so.

Fans that do buy the PPV or attend live will do so with the expectation of seeing two men try to take each other’s head off but this press conference lessened the chances of that happening.

Is Bradley just here for a pay check? Does Pacquiao still have his killer instinct?

These are things that’ll be determined on Saturday night, not by the final outcome, but by the nature of the fight itself.
