Errol Spence Jr. made a huge statement by knocking out Chris Algeiri on national television and his camp is looking to capatlize by landing a top 5 opponent.
Two of the opponent on Errol Spence’s list according to promoter Lou Dibella are Floyd Mayweather & Manny Pacquiao.
“I tell you what, Mayweather ain’t coming out of retirement to fight him. Pacquiao? I’d bet my house right now he beats Pacquiao,” said Dibella via ESPN.com.
Spence had a few comments regarding how his style stacks up to Pacquiao’s.
“I think I’m in the top 5,” Spence said, sitting alongside DiBella. “I proved that I’m there with Keith Thurman and Amir Khan and Shawn Porter and Manny Pacquiao. I put on a performance that Manny Pacquiao didn’t do and Amir Khan didn’t do. They didn’t stop Chris Algieri.”
It’s unlikely either comes out of retirement to fight Spence, so the next move is for the Spence team to turn towards landing a title fight. They believe that’s also going to be a tough task.
“I don’t think Kell Brook will want a piece of him, honestly,” said Dibella. “I was a little shocked tonight. I thought he [Spence] was going to win. Chris has never gotten steam rolled. No one has ever run through him like that, ever. Is there anyone in this room who thinks there would be anyone as a prohibitive favorite over him?”
“Who are you going to put in front of him who you think he can’t beat. This man has the potential to beat anyone in the world today. Anyone. Thurman-Porter, which will be taking place in this building on June 25, I’m sure he’s [Spence] going to be sitting ringside. The winner of that fight is going to have to look down in the crowd and see him,” said Dibella.
The world now knows Errol Spence is a budding star and the other top fighter won’t be able to dodge him for long.
