If you’re looking for someone to blame for Isaiah Thomas’ big performance against the Hawks in Game 3, Allen Iverson might be partly to blame. Here’s why via CBS Sports:
Thomas first met Iverson during All-Star weekend and the two have stayed in touch. Iverson even helped motivate Thomas before Game 3.
“Allen Iverson just said, ‘Keep fighting.'” Thomas said. “[The Hawks] did what they were supposed to do in Atlanta, now it’s time for you guys to take advantage of being at home.”
Thomas came out and performed, giving the Celtics his career high in points (42) and the victory to save them from going down 0-3 against the Hawks.
One side note was a slap on the head that Thomas gave Atlanta point guard Dennis Schroeder, which could result in a suspension. Without Thomas, it’s hard to imagine the Celtics being able to overcome already down 2-1.
The Celtics and Hawks resume play on Sunday in Boston.
