On Saturday, Amir Khan enters the newly built T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as a 5-1 underdog against Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez. While the masses believe the WBC middleweight champion will have little trouble dismantling the former super lightweight champion support for Khan has picked up as fight day approaches.
Moving up the scale to a career-high 155 pounds for the first time, Khan looks to continue his current five consecutive win streak since joining the stead of veteran trainer Virgil Hunter. Low in the activity department in the last two years, after defeating Devon Alexander in impressive fashion in 2014 and struggling to victory against Chris Algieri in 2015, Khan will have the rigors of ring rust to contend with in addition to the tall order in the form of Canelo in front of him. But, before completely discounting a potential ‘shock the world’ chance at victory, from Khan, it’s fair to say boxing has seen it’s share of upsets happen in the past so anything is possible.
