Sadly, Afeni Shakur passed away this week. She’s mainly known as Tupac’s mother but she’s an incredible activist in her own right. She was part of the Black Panther party and was pregnant with Tupac while she was in jail.
Needless to say, she’s an incredible woman. After, Tupac tragically died, she had control over his music and financial legacy. But what would happen if she passed?
Well, TMZ has learned that Afeni set up a trust to control Tupac’s music rights. She named Tom Whalley, former head of Warner Bros. Records, to handle all of Tupac’s valuable catalog.
She was very thorough in her paperwork and now there aren’t any issues over Tupac’s music. Can you imagine if she didn’t do any of that?
This is something that Prince’s family is dealing with because he didn’t leave a will or name anyone to control his music rights, so now the battle is on.
RIP Afeni Shakur.
