Draymond Green is a top 10 player in the NBA. One of the most versatile defenders, scorers and passers in the league. He’s the glue guy to the best team in NBA history. Steph Curry is phenomenal but you can say Green is their most important player.
He’s come a long way since June 28, 2012. On that night Draymond Green was drafted 35th. Mercury News interviewed Draymond and he knew why he was drafted that late.
“I know why I had to wait,” he said. “I know what the scouts thought: ‘He’s a tweener. Who’s he going to guard? He’s maxed out his potential.’
The Warriors passed on him twice. They drafted Harrison Barnes at 7 and Festus Ezeli at 30.
Draymond Green is one those guys where teams who passed on him are past regretting it and ready to jump off a cliff. New Orleans Hornets drafted Austin Rivers at 10, Houston Rockets drafted Jeremy Lamb at 12, Dallas Mavericks drafted Tyler Zeller at 17 etc.
Draymond says,
“I will never forget that night,” he said. “I had to wait all that time. I’m not saying I’m cocky or anything, but I felt like I had to wait behind guys I was better than.
And he’s absolutely right. He remembers all the players drafted before him and he should have a huge gripe but he’s an NBA Champion now, he’s part of the best team in NBA history and on the way to back-to-back titles. Draymond Green is an animal and he was born to do this.
This is how you respond to the naysayers.
