Report: Paterno & Penn State Knew of Sandusky Abuse Since the 70’s

bso pacino to play paterno in movieMore very upsetting news has surfaced when it comes to Jerry Sandusky, Penn State and the child abuse allegations. A court order dealing with insurance coverage had some very telling information in it. It wasn’t a lot of information but it was jaw dropping.

According to PennLive.com, the documents states that a Penn State insurer claimed “in 1976, a child allegedly reported to PSU’s Head Coach Joseph Paterno that he (the child) was sexually molested by Sandusky.”

The order also shows in a different reference that in 1987 and 1988 unnamed assistant coaches witnessed inappropriate contact between Sandusky and children who were unidentified. The claim also stated that the case was supposedly referred to Penn State’s athletic director.

Sandusky was convicted in 2012 of sexually abusing 10 boys between the years of 1994 and 2008. The question that has been lingering for years is if Paterno knew of any of Sandusky’s actions and if so how much. We can make our on assumptions of what Paterno really knew but his family’s attorney has spoken out on his behalf.

“Through all of this review there has never been any evidence of inappropriate conduct by Coach Paterno. To the contrary, the evidence clearly shows he shared information with his superiors as appropriate.

“An allegation now about an alleged event 40 years ago, as represented by a single line in a court document regarding an insurance issue, with no corroborating evidence, does not change the facts. Joe Paterno did not, at any time, cover up conduct by Jerry Sandusky.”

This is an ongoing messy story that I hope is one day resolved.
