LeBron James alluded to having a “secret motivation” that was the driving force behind his desire to win during the 2015 season but never revealed what that magic elixir was …until now.
Speaking to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James says the source of this hidden motivation came not from family, haters or childhood but from former coach Pat Riley.
“[James] told me that when he left Miami and people who he thought he had strong, trusting relationships with – he said, I’m not going to name names, but someone told me that ‘you’re making the biggest mistake of your career.’
“And he said it really hurt him. Basically, he felt taken for granted. ‘Look, I just gave you four years of my prime, and you’re not going to be comfortable with my decision and root me on? You’re going to make me feel bad going out the door?’”
On top of all the ‘Heat’ James endures, Pat Riley too? Maybe his next tee shirt will be an Irishman with a receding hairline. Far more receding than his that is.
