After spending 5 unnecessary months in jail, Aitabdel Salem is ready to get his life back. Salem was unaware that his bail bond was $2.
Whenever you’re watching a show or learning about celebrity drama, usually you hear of bonds set at enormous amounts. Sometimes people post their bond and sometimes they don’t. However, in the case of Aitabdel Salem, I’m sure he would’ve been able to post his bond since it’s cheaper than a one-way trip on the MTA.
Aitabdel Salem spent time at Rikers Island from November of 2014 till April of 2015, totaling out a whole 5 months. Even a day in jail is something one cannot picture but after finding out that he could’ve been out on just $2 is vexing. Salem was accused of attacking an NYPD officer because he was attempting to steal from Zara. He is blaming is ex-lawyer, Stephen Pokart, for this mixup.
Salem, 41, was still stuck with dollar bails on two minor tampering and mischief charges, meaning a quick payment of $2 would have sent him home. However, Salem argues, Pokart never informed him of this development. As a result, Salem and his attorneys argue, he missed a scheduled arraignment on May 13 of last year and was charged with bail jumping.
A detail like this cannot be mixed up somehow when the topic of discussion is jail time but how this got lost in “paperwork” will be interesting to hear about.
