Per reports, Maria Sharapova has been handed down a 2-year ban for cheating.
Details via ESPN:
Maria Sharapova was suspended for two years by the International Tennis Federation on Wednesday, a result of her testing positive for the banned substance meldonium, a blood-flow boosting drug.
Sharapova can still appeal the ruling, though, I don’t know how she’d be able to reduce the suspension seeing as how she all but admitted fault speaking in March:
“I take great responsibility and professionalism in my career every day,” Sharapova said. I made a huge mistake. I let my fans down. I let my sport down.”
Sharapova hasn’t played since she lost to Serena Williams Jan. 26 in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Sad news, but if you’re just here for the pics:
