Two years ago, Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio agreed to a four-year contract extension.
Now, Rubio is having second thoughts about sticking around long-term.
“Next season will be crucial for me. I’ve been in the NBA for five years, and six years without playoffs would be a long time. At 26, I’d have to start thinking about teams that can get to the playoffs and win in the Finals.”
There’s so much irony here because Rubio has essentially been on the trade block for the past year or so.
Minnesota has a bright future with the likes of Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine and etc, but Rubio appears to be the odd man out.
There’s a fair chance Rubio won’t be on the roster after next year’s trade deadline.
