Former Cowboys running back Joseph Randle is facing a felony criminal charge in Sedgwick County District Court. According to an arrest affidavit released Monday morning, Randle threatened to kill a detention deputy when he was refused a phone call while incarcerated in May.
Randle had been refused a phone call at 8:02 p.m. that day and told the officer involved, “I will kill you I swear on my life and everything that I have I will kill you when I get out.” The threat was allegedly repeated several times in a very aggressive manner.
The document, written by a detective with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, goes on to state that the deputy felt very threatened. The reason the deputy denied Randle’s phone call request is because Randle had been given the opportunity, which he declined, to use the phone earlier, during the shift of another deputy.
As a result of the allegations, Randle is charged with one count of criminal threat. Since his release from the Cowboys organization late last year, the 24-year-old has faced a number of legal issues. In addition to the threat charge, Randle has two other felony criminal cases pending. One charge is for allegedly hitting three people with a car after he was asked to leave a housewarming party in February and the other charge is for interfering with law enforcement officers trying to serve him with a warrant.
He remains jailed in Sedgwick County on a total of $50,000 in bonds. His next court date is July 26 for all three charges.
