Is Cleveland sports on the rise?
Last month, the Cleveland Cavaliers brought the city of Cleveland it’s first major championship in 52 years. The last team to win was the Browns in 1964.
Ever since the Cavaliers ended the city’s title drought, another Cleveland team has followed suit of the team’s success by going on a 14-game winning streak – the Indians.
The streak has been going on since June 17th, two days before the Cavs realized they would going into a game seven and ultimately, winning it all in Oakland. It’s their longest win streak in franchise history since 1951.
This is a pretty good run for the Indians so far. They’ve faced the Royals, who are defending World Champions, and the Blue Jays who also had a good playoff run last year – their first since 1993. While the White Sox, Rays, and Braves aren’t as good, their games have come close to keep Cleveland fans on the edge of their seat.
Even if the Indians win streak were to come to an end, fans shouldn’t have much to worry about as long as they continue to play good and see production from the veterans and younger guys like Corey Kluber, Jason Kipnis, Carlos Santana, and Francisco Lindor.
Currently, the Indians hold a seven game lead over the Royals in the American League Central Division. Barring any setbacks, fans should be able to see this team make its first playoff appearance since 2007 (2013, if you think the Wild Card game is considered a part of the playoffs). If the Cavaliers can do it, why can’t the Indians? Maybe the Browns can follow along in the upcoming season as well although that’s probably pushing it too far. We’ll see.
