We can make jokes about Courtney Lee replacing Dwyane Wade in that big-four photo of the new look Knicks that was circulating, but the question has to be asked.

How close was Wade to joining the Knicks, and not the Chicago Bulls?

Speaking from Las Vegas where Team USA had just finished wrapping up a scrimmage — Melo told reporters that the Knicks were about 2-days away from signing Wade.

The Knicks had already come to terms with Joakim Noah, Courtney Lee and Brandon Jennings by July 4 — thus running out of the room needed for Wade — who agreed to join the Bulls on a two-year, $47.5-million deal three days later.
